Cancellation of candidates’ debate

Following the low participation rate of the population for the candidates’ debate of the electoral riding of Brome- Missisquoi that was to take place on March 31 at 6:30 at the Théâtre des tournesols, we would like to inform you that the three boards of the Chambers of Commerce of Cowansville, Farnham and Brome Lake have taken the decision to cancel this event.

This decision is also based on the fact that many meetings were set up in the last few days by organizations across the constituency to which the population will have the chance to attend. In addition, after consultation with their members and various institutions, the three boards of the Chambers of Commerce came to the conclusion that the debate was no longer relevant for the reasons mentioned above.

The primary mission of our organizations is to prioritize its actions and respond to the needs and interests of their members. Therefore, if the interest for a debate is not shown, we have no choice but to cancel it.

For further information, please contact one of the following three officials:

Stewart Bacon
President of the Chamber of Commerce of Brome Lake
450-525-5251

Hélène Paquette
President of the Chamber of Commerce and Cowansville and region

This event will be held on Monday, March 31st at the Théâtre des Tournesols located at 331, chemin Brosseau in Cowansville at 6:30 p.m. Doors will open at 6:00 p.m. 290 tickets are available and will be divided proportionally according to the number of members of each participating chamber of commerce. The cost of the ticket is $10 for members and $15 for non members. The tickets can be obtained in one of the three chambers as follows (only 2 tickets per person will be sold):

The moderator will be Mr. Gilles Baron who is recognized for his work in previous municipal and provincial elections in Brome-Missisquoi and neighbourhood counties. The program of the debate will allow each candidate to express his or her values and platform. They will have the opportunity to answer questions from the other candidates, from the presidents of each chamber and from the audience. Each intervention will be timed to ensure impartiality.

Debate will be televised on the web

As information technology is very present in our lives, we took the decision to film the whole debate and to broadcast it in each of the chamber of commerce’s web sites which are: cclacbrome.com; chambre-cowansville.com; and ccfr.com. This will enable citizens who were not able to be at the debate on the evening of March 31 to webcast the debate.

List of candidates who are participating

The candidate of the Parti Québécois, Mr. René Beauregard, the candidate of la Coalition Avenue Québec, Mr. François Lemay and the candidate of Québec Solidaire, Mr. Benoît Van Caloen have agreed to participate in the debate. The outgoing liberal candidate, Mr. Pierre Paradis has not yet confirmed his presence. As the submission of nominations is not completed, we reserve the right to include other candidates during the debate.
